Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of the FAQs we're often asked about The Old Apple Store - if you have a question and the answer is not covered below please send us an email and we'll be happy to help.
What are arrival and departure times?
In order to provide our cleaning team with enough time to thoroughly clean and sanitise the property, we kindly request for you to check in no earlier than 3 pm on the day of arrival. For the same reason, we ask for you to please check out promptly by 10 am on the day of your departure, as our cleaning team will need to use the property’s parking space.
What’s the check in procedure?
We will be in touch 14 days prior to your arrival with directions and check in details. You’re welcome to self-check in anytime after 3pm on the day of your arrival. You can reach us at any time should you have any questions by sending us an email or calling property manager Kieran directly on 07950 994 729.
How does the booking process work?
We’re listed on air bnb (view our listing here!), and take direct bookings via our website. It’s a 25% deposit to book directly, and the balance is due 8 weeks before your arrival. We charge the same booking fees across both platforms, but many guests prefer to book directly to save paying extra platform fees.
Is The Old Apple Store child friendly?
We welcome families to The Old Apple Store, and there are plenty of children’s attractions nearby. However, the property may not be suitable for younger children for the reasons listed below. Please therefore take these factors into consideration before booking:
-
There are slate steps leading up to the property from the lane, which can become slippery when wet.
-
There is an open-tread spiral staircase leading from the living area to the downstairs bedroom. We do not have stairgates so children will need to be confident in using these stairs safely.
-
There are no child safety locks on cupboard doors.
-
There is a hot tub on the decking which is not fenced. Children will need supervising at all times.
-
We do not provide a highchair or travel cot, but you are welcome to bring your own. Please note, space is limited in the upstairs bedroom - there is more space in the downstairs bedroom for a cot.
Do you welcome dogs?
Yes! We love dogs and you’re welcome to bring one small/medium sized breed. There are lots of brilliant walks nearby, and Lee Bay beach is dog friendly year round. Please bear the following in mind before deciding whether to bring your dog:
-
We have a size limit as the main living space at The Old Apple Store is relatively small. Therefore, if you have a high-energy dog, it may not be suitable to bring them.
-
We ask that dogs aren’t invited into the bedrooms or onto the beds. This is because we have cream carpets and white bed linen! We also ask that they are kept off the sofa and soft furnishings.
-
Please bring sufficient dog bedding, dog towels, food and water bowls with you.
-
Although the garden is fenced, we cannot guarantee that it's fully secured, therefore dogs must be supervised at all times.
Is there off-road parking at the property?
Yes, we have one parking space next door to the Old Apple Store. It’s located up a relatively steep gravelled driveway. There is a raised concrete edge to the driveway to retain the surface, so if you have a low car or low profile tyres you may prefer to park in the local Village Hall car park approximately a 2 minute walk from The Old Apple Store.
Is the hot tub available year-round?
Yes! We maintain the hot tub year-round so you can enjoy it at any time of the year.
What’s in Lee village?
We have a village hall (Lee Memorial Hall), which hosts events throughout the year such as Lee Bay Arts & Crafts Fair, the annual flower show, and Lee Spring fete. The village hall also hosts regular painting clubs, yoga and wellbeing workshops and has a grassy meadow, small play park and a car park.
Opposite the village hall is St Matthew's Church, a welcoming family friendly church holding regular services throughout the year. Next door to the church is The Old Schoolroom Craft Gallery, a delightful arts and crafts venue selling locally made paintings, prints and cards, beach goods, ice creams, teas and coffees. Please check their Facebook page for opening times!
Our village pub The Grampus, is a traditional, family and dog friendly pub dating back to the 14th century. It’s cosy and welcoming, with a beautiful garden. They serve lunch and dinner, have real ales (including ones brewed on site), an extensive wine list and great home cooked food made with locally sourced, seasonal produce.
How far is the village, village pub and the beach?
The main village and car park is a short 2-minute walk from The Old Apple Store, The Grampus pub is a 5-minute walk, and Lee Bay beach approximately 10 minutes.
What’s provided for our stay?
We aim to make your stay as comfortable and as enjoyable as possible so provide the essentials and complimentary condiments. This includes tea & coffee, luxury robes for hot tub use, towels, hair dryer and iron & board for example. You may wish to pack walking/hiking boots (and wellies during the wetter months!) but we provide umbrellas and torches.
Is there a BBQ?
Yes, we have a large gas BBQ on the decking.
Who do I contact if I have any questions before or during my stay?
The Old Apple Store is managed by local husband-and-wife team Kieran and Helen, who live in Woolacombe. Having lived in the area for many years (including Lee village for 6 years!) they know the area well and are on hand to answer any questions you may have, or provide recommendations for restaurants, activities etc. They can be contacted anytime by email or you can reach Kieran directly on 07950 994 729.
