Explore Lee Bay
Nestled within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the village of Lee lies just two miles west of Ilfracombe. Surrounded on three sides by rolling Devon countryside and opening to the Bristol Channel on the fourth, Lee is a peaceful retreat with a rich sense of history.
Set in a deep, wooded combe and enjoying a gentle maritime climate, the village has long been known as “Fuchsia Valley,” thanks to the vibrant scarlet blooms that fill its hedgerows in summer.
At its heart stands St. Matthew’s Church (1835), alongside the Old Schoolroom - now a welcoming craft gallery. Opposite, you’ll find the Village Hall and Pixie Meadow, still the setting for community fetes and gatherings.
A short walk towards the sea brings you to The Grampus, the village’s much-loved pub, perfect for a relaxed drink or meal on a sunny afternoon. From here, a narrow footpath winds over a small bridge, across a meadow, and down to Lee Bay beach.
Framed by dramatic cliffs, this secluded cove is often described as the jewel of Lee. With its rock pools, sandy spots, and timeless, unspoiled beauty, it offers a rare tranquillity — even in the height of summer!​​​​
Property Details
Two Bedrooms
​
The bedrooms are a striking marriage of rustic and modern. The light and airy triple aspect upstairs bedroom houses a double bed and enjoys views of the adjacent valley.

Follow the spiral staircase down to the second bedroom and you will find a super-king bed (can be split into twin beds if required) The room also has access to the outside at ground level via a small barn door.

Outside Entertaining Space
​
Slate steps lead from the front of the cottage onto the deck where a wooden dining table invites guests to enjoy starlight feast nights. The garden behind is filled with trees shrubs and delicate wildflowers all enhanced by the pacifying sound of the nearby trickling stream.

A hot tub on the lower deck offers the perfect place to stargaze by night or absorb the natural surroundings by day.

For Relaxation
​
If you can tear yourself away from the beautiful Lee Bay or the local ‘Grampus’ pub with its unique and extensive wine list, then there are plenty of things to see and do in the local area. Three miles to the north is Ilfracombe, the home of Damien Hirst’s ‘Verity’. Why not visit one of the many art galleries located here, or perhaps book a boat trip to Lundy Island?
To the south of Lee lies Woolacombe, famous for its sand and surf. Here, there are plenty of good eateries and bars to enjoy after a long day on the beach. Croyde Bay & Saunton Sands are also just a short drive away so you really are spoilt for choice!

Of course, once you have returned to the tranquillity of The Old Apple Store, relax in the knowledge that, tomorrow, there will be plenty of new things to explore..

Practicalities
​
The Old Apple Store is well equipped with all amenities. There is private parking for one car & further parking is available upon arrangement. There are outside racks for wellies and wetsuits & there is space provided for boards and buckets.
Dog Friendly
​​
We welcome one small to medium sized dog, and there are plenty of beautiful walks on the doorstep! Venture through the village, across a stream and meadow to reach the beach. Or for breathtaking views, you can access the South West Coast path and walk to Ilfracombe or Woolacombe.
Please note, we ask for dogs to be kept off the sofa and out of the bedrooms. Although our garden is fenced, if you have a tiny dog, or an escape artist we recommend keeping them on a lead whilst outside. Please bring everything necessary such as a dog bed, bowls, towels and poo bags.
